Lorenzo Olvera
Director, Health Equity & Human Impact
St. Alphonsus
Lorenzo Olvera is the Director of Health Equity and Human Impact for the Saint Alphonsus Health System. As Director, he helps advance health equity and the Common Good on behalf of the System by implementing a multi-year, actionable roadmap and key measures aligned with the health system’s values, mission, and objectives.
He has over fifteen years of experience in public policy and government. He most recently served as the Director of the Senate Diversity Initiative in the office of the Majority Leader, Senator Chuck Schumer. There, he, and his team assisted Senate congressional offices in building a diverse workforce, one that reflects our nation's diversity.
Lorenzo served in the Obama Administration as Deputy White House Liaison and Director of Leadership and Development at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), where he recruited, hired, and helped manage political appointees. Before his time at DOE, he was Special Advisor in the Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs at the Department of Education. There, Lorenzo managed civil rights issues, tribal education, early childhood education, nominations, and congressional outreach. Before joining the Administration, he served in then, Congressman Xavier Becerra’s leadership office as a Member Outreach Assistant. He is also an alumnus of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Public Policy Fellowship program.
Lorenzo is a Certified Professional in Clinical Health Equity and a graduate of Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, where he earned an Executive Master's in Leadership. He received certificates on Strategies for Building and Leading Diverse Organizations from the Harvard Kennedy School and on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida. He also earned a Special Credential on Inclusive Workplace Culture from the Society for Human Resource Management, and he has a Bachelor’s in Political Economy from the College of Idaho. He is currently working towards becoming a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
He currently serves as the board president of We are Idaho, a local C4 civic organization group, a board trustee for the College of Idaho, and a member of the Idaho Hispanic Community Center’s advisory group.
Lorenzo was born and raised in Caldwell, Idaho, and is the son of Mexican immigrants. He and his wife, Ariel, are the proud parents of their three children, Sebastian, Everlee, and Cordae.
